What happened at Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics?
This is an evolving situation, and as of writing we are only aware of what the hospital releases on the matter via Facebook. The Whitman hospital wrote in a March 4 Facebook post: “If you have an appointment at the hospital or any of our clinics on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, please understand there may be delays, however, we remain open and here to care for you.”
At the moment the hospital is choosing not to disclose full details about the cyberattack but said it is working to resolve their IT issues.
The hospital’s first alert about the incident was posted on their FB page on February 28: “Attention WHMC community: On February 28, 2025 WHMC became aware that our electronic systems were infiltrated by an unknown perpetrator. A cybersecurity firm is actively addressing the situation. At this time WHMC remains open to care for you. We continue to monitor the situation and will follow up with updates on our Facebook page and website.”
On March 4 they stated: “Our internal electronic systems remain down due to the cyberattack although we are making progress in resolving all issues. If you have an appointment at the hospital or any of our clinics on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 please understand there may be delays, however, we remain open and here to care for you.”
The WHMC Update for March 5, 2025: “WHMC is in the process of investigating a cyberattack detected within our internal electronic systems on February 28, 2025. An investigation was immediately initiated and as a precautionary measure the decision was made to take our systems offline. Reactivation will occur when it is determined it is safe to do so. Until then, this may cause slight delays during your visit. Forensic analysis to date has given WHMC no reason to believe patient information has been compromised. WHMC remains open for all services and here to care for you.”
We are following the fluid situation, and we encourage current and former patients of the hospital system to take certain measures to help mitigate any data theft risks involved with a possible data breach.
