What Happened at Sensata Technologies?

Sensata Technologies was allegedly targeted in a ransomware attack that disrupted operations, according to a routine SEC regulatory filing. In the filing, the company told the SEC that it detected a cyberattack on April 6, 2025. The company says this ransomware incident resulted in files stored on some devices being encrypted.

It is not yet clear the nature and scope of this event and it is yet to be seen what kind of data was in fact compromised. The sensor company did, however, find evidence that the alleged hackers stole files from the encrypted devices and an investigation is underway to determine who has been impacted. Any staff or client should remain vigilant, and take some basic precautions to help prevent any related fraud or identity theft.

The SEC statement read, “The incident has temporarily impacted Sensata’s operations, including shipping, receiving, manufacturing production, and various other support functions. While the company has implemented interim measures to allow for the restoration of certain functions, the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known.”

Sensata, based out of Massachusetts, employs more than 18,000 people. They provide sensors, relays, switches and other electrical components for the automotive, industrial and aerospace sectors. The company is now working with third-party cybersecurity professionals to investigate the incident.
