What Happened at Legacy Professionals?

In a notice posted on the Legacy website, the accounting firm states that a recent data security event may have impacted personal information related to individuals doing business with the company. Anyone involved in accounting services, including individuals, corporations, not-for-profit organizations, labor unions or related employee benefit plans should confirm with the firm exactly what data may have been compromised.

Legacy says they currently have no evidence that any leaked information has been used to commit identity theft or fraud, though that is always a distinct possibility in these delicate situations.

  • In April 2024, Legacy Professionals first became aware of potentially suspicious activity on their IT network and started an initial investigation with cybersecurity specialists.

  • In early February 2025, Legacy confirmed that the following information on their systems may have included names, social security numbers, driver’s license/state ID numbers, and medical treatment / health insurance information.

On February 27, 2025, Legacy Professionals, LLP filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine and also began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals impacted.
