What happened at U.S. Dermatology Partners?

According to a data breach notice posted on the company website, in June  2024, US Dermatology Partners became aware of a network disruption and started an investigation with external forensic experts. The investigation soon concluded that an unauthorized party accessed the company network and transferred certain files to an external destination. It is unclear why a data theft review took almost a year, but it was reported completed on April 2, 2025.

The information compromised involved varies by individual, but may include the following: names, dates of birth, medical record number, health insurance information, treatment information, Social Security and/or driver’s license numbers.

At the time of writing, the company has not disclosed the exact number of individuals affected, though letters were sent out to provide more details to impacted individuals. The BlackBasta ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack and the group allegedly threatened to publish the stolen data on the dark web. The group’s posting appeared on the Tor network on July 15, 2024. It is not clear if data was released or a ransom was paid.

On May 30, 2025, started mailing data breach notification letters to patients whose information was involved.
