What Happened at St. Clair Orthopaedics?
St. Clair Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (SCOSM) has begun sending out data breach notification letters and has posted a notice on its website regarding a “hacking/IT incident” that has allegedly impacted around 340,000 patients and staff. The following patient information may have been accessed and stolen:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Phone number and email address
- Driver’s license or state ID number, or other ID number
- Health insurance data (e.g., health plans/policies, insurance companies, member/group ID numbers, and Medicaid-Medicare government payor ID numbers)
St. Clair has explained that the data breach that exposed sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information was discovered on November 24, 2024, and the company started an internal investigation. The review later concluded that sensitive personal data stored on its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the network breach.
St. Clair is a Macomb, Michigan-based healthcare practice specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopy, foot and ankle, hand, wrist and elbow, joint reconstruction, hip and knee replacement, shoulder injuries and reconstruction, spine, neck and back, trauma (fracture care), regenerative medicine, physical medicine and rehab, and pediatric medicine. St. Clair offers diagnostic imaging, joint injections, bracing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, surgery, and other care.
