What Happened at Oxford Life Insurance?
In mid-April 2025, Oxford Life Insurance Company first discovered a data breach that may have exposed sensitive personal information belonging to certain clients. According to sample notices filed with the Maine and Massachusetts Attorneys General, the data security breach involved the unauthorized access of data containing personally identifiable information (PII). The following types of information may have been compromised:
- Social Security numbers
- Financial account details
- Driver’s license numbers
The investigation is still ongoing, and it is unclear at the moment how many individuals have been impacted. However, more details should emerge in the coming weeks and Oxford Life Insurance Company has begun notifying consumers of the incident by sending out data breach notification letters on May 13, 2025. The company provided the necessary breach disclosures to the Maine Attorney General and the Massachusetts Attorney General on May 14.
Oxford Life is offering a complimentary two-year membership to Experian IdentityWorksSM. This service has its limits, however, and anyone impacted should take additional measures to protect themselves. Contact an attorney to discuss your legal options and to seek compensation for related damages.
