What happened at South Bay Credit Union?
In January 2025, South Bay Credit Union confirmed a data breach that reportedly affected 7,479 individuals. The breach was first discovered after the organization detected suspicious activity in an employee’s email account back in November 2024. An investigation concluded that an unauthorized individual gained access to the compromised email account and may have exposed sensitive personal information.
The impacted personal data may have included names, Social Security numbers, and financial account information. South Bay Credit Union disclosed the breach to the Maine Attorney General’s office as well as the Massachusetts Attorney General.
