What Happened at Gregory & Appel?

Gregory & Appel first reported the breach to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, specifically noting that sensitive personal identifiable information in its possession may have been accessed and acquired. According to the company notice, in February 2025 Gregory became aware of a suspicious email to an employee originating from someone purporting to be its CFO. An initial investigation was launched to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

Gregory and Appel later concluded that an employee inadvertently emailed Gregory & Appel employee W-2s to an unauthorized individual, potentially compromising names and Social Security numbers. As a result, the company started mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals in March 2025.
