Deodorant Recall: HRB Brands Brut & Sure Aerosols Recalled

The Lyon Firm is investigating the HRB Brands deodorant recall after cans of Brut and Sure deodorants were found contaminated with benzene. Joe Lyon handles product recall and product liability cases on behalf of plaintiffs nationwide.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the HRB Brands deodorant recall includes Sure and Brut aerosol deodorant sprays due to the presence of benzene, a cancer-causing chemical.

Benzene is not a standard ingredient in the deodorant products, but a review showed that levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product.

Known as a human carcinogen, benzene can be inhaled or absorbed through skin, resulting in cancers including leukemia (AML) and serious blood disorders like aplastic anemia.

Consumers are urged to stop using the following recalled deodorant products:

  • Brut Classic Antiperspirant Aerosol (4 oz)
  • Brut Classic Antiperspirant Aerosol (6 oz)
  • Brut Classic Deodorant Aerosol (10 oz)
  • Sure Regular Antiperspirant Aerosol (6 oz)
  • Sure Unscented Antiperspirant Aerosol (6 oz)

Contaminated Consumer Products

Last year, several other products were recalled due to benzene contamination, including deodorant, sunscreen, dry shampoo and conditioner spray products.
