John Deere ZTrak™ Zero Turn Mowers Recall
On January 02, 2025, the CPSC announced the John Deere ZTrak™ Zero Turn recall. The voltage regulator in the Deere mower’s engine can possibly fail during use or while the product is idle, causing the engine to overheat, thus posing fire and burn hazards.
About 39,000 units were recalled after Kawasaki received five reports of fires and 26 reports of melting and/or smoking.
Costco Cold Medicine Recall
Costco’s Kirkland Signature Severe Cold and Flu Plus Congestion medicine has been recalled over potential contamination with “foreign materials.”
The medicine was sold at Costco stores in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and Tennessee between October 30, 2024, and November 30, 2024.
Costco initiated the Cold and Flu medicine recall after the “accidental release and shipment” of defective units that were rejected by their quality control department.
Kia EV9 Seatbelt Recall
Kia has issued a recall for 22,883 of its model year 2024-2025 Kia EV9 hybrid electric vehicles after the automaker discovered that some of the EV9 vehicles contained missing seat bolts in their second- and third-row seats. The recall involves Kia EV9 hybrid electric vehicles manufactured between Sept. 25, 2023, and Oct. 15, 2024.
The automaker explained in a recall statement, “Seats with missing seat mounting bolts may not properly restrain an occupant during certain collisions, thereby increasing the risk of injury.”
Ford Super Duty Recall
Ford has recalled 295,449 Super Duty trucks sold with diesel engines and fueled with biodiesel because the installed fuel pumps can fail if they sit unused for long periods. Recalled models include the following:
- 2020-2022 F-250 Super Duty
- 2020-2022 F-350 Super Duty
- 2020-2022 F-450 Super Duty
- 2020-2022 F-550 Super Duty
- 2020-2022 F-600 Super Duty
Ford told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that biodiesel deposits can form inside the fuel pump if the trucks sit unused, which can cause the pumps to fail.
Alcon Laboratories Eye Drop Recall
Alcon Laboratories has voluntarily recalled Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF, Single Vials On-the-Go, after Alcon discovered fungal contamination. Fungal contamination of an ophthalmic product could be very dangerous and potentially cause serious eye infections that may be vision-threatening. As of writing, Alcon Laboratories has not received any reports of injury related to this recall.
Blue Ridge Pet Food Recall
Blue Ridge issued a recall of 1,350 pounds of its 2-pound Kitten Mix logs after it tested positive for Salmonella contamination. The cat food recall was initiated after the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources collected a sample of the product following a customer complaint in December.
On December 2, Blue Ridge announced that packages of its Puppy Mix product were also being recalled due to Salmonella contamination. The FDA noted the problem was again by consumers when their dogs fell ill.
