What Happened at Community Hospital of Anaconda?
According to a notice posted on the hospital website, on August 12, 2024, CHA discovered unusual activity that disrupted their IT systems. A later investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor had gained access to the Anaconda network between August 10-12, 2024.
This incident was claimed by the MEOW ransomware group on its dark web portal, saying they stole over 540 GB of sensitive employee, client, supplier, and partner information. The MEOW group released some screenshots on their dark web site to give examples of the scope of the data theft, further confirming the severity of the data breach.
It is unclear why it took so long to complete the process but in May 2025, Community Hospital of Anaconda says they completed a review of stolen data. While the information will vary depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state identification numbers
- Military identification numbers
- Passport numbers
- Financial account information
- Patient account numbers
- Medical record numbers
- Medicare and Medicaid numbers
- Treatment information
- Health insurance information
