What Happened at Americhek (Certified Employment Screening)?
Data breach notification letters have been sent out by the company, describing in more detail exactly what personal information may have been accessed and removed from servers.
At the moment, we know that BackChecked discovered unauthorized access to its digital systems. After an initial investigation, BackChecked determined that an unauthorized individual accessed their systems on September 26, 2024 and may have stolen data from some applicants’ records. On October 29, 2024, BackChecked notified Americhek about the data security incident. The following may have been accessed in the breach:
- Individuals’ names
- Dates of birth
- Driver’s license numbers
- Social Security numbers
Over 7,000 individuals may have had their data leaked in this reported incident. On the company website, Americhek notes the following in the privacy policy: “we have security protocols and measures in place which include internal and external firewalls, physical security and technological security measures, and encryption of certain information to ensure against unauthorized access or alteration of data…We take reasonable precautions to be sure that unaffiliated third parties or affiliates, to whom information is disclosed, as described above, treat the personally identifiable information in a similarly responsible manner to our privacy policy.”
