Ahold Delhaize Data Breach Investigation

What Happened at Ahold Delhaize USA Services?
In a recent filing with the Maine Attorney General, Ahold Delhaize disclosed that hackers may have accessed and acquired the personal data of 2,242,521 individuals after gaining access to the company’s IT systems on November 6, 2024.
The company has said that the stolen files may have included internal employment records with personal information obtained while working with current and former Ahold Delhaize USA companies. The compromised personal information may contain a combination of the following:
- Full Name
- Social Security Number
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Date of Birth
- Driver’s License Number
- Financial Account Information
- Health Information
Ahold has not named the cybercrime group behind the attack, however, the INC Ransom ransomware group added Ahold Delhaize to its dark web extortion portal back in April, leaking samples of documents allegedly taken directly from the company’s systems. INC Ransom is a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) operation, and they would typically demand a ransom to decrypt or release the data back to their target, though Ahold has not commented on any ransom paid. INC lists of more than 250 victims in government, healthcare, educational, and industrial sectors.
Ahold Delhaize is a multinational retailer and wholesale company, operating over 9,400 local stores across Europe, the United States, and Indonesia, employing more than 393,000 people. In the U.S., they operate under the Food Lion, Stop & Shop, Giant Food, and Hannaford brands.
