ClearBalance Data Breach

The Lyon Firm is investigating the fallout from the ClearBalance data breach that may have compromised the personal data of over 200,000 individuals. ClearBalance is a company out of California that provides loans to help patients finance hospital bills and other medical costs. On July 9th ClearBalance began notifying around 209,000 patients that various data was breached in a phishing attack. Compromised information for patients may include:

• Names
• Date of births
• Social Security numbers
• Phone numbers
• Government-issued IDs
• A full-face photographic images
• ClearBalance loan information
• Bank account and routing numbers
• Healthcare account number

According to reports, the phishing attack occurred in March when an unauthorized third party accessed the firm’s email accounts. However, the data breach was not discovered until April 26, according to the ClearBalace data breach notice.
