Hospital Excessive Billing & Overcharge Lawsuits
Ohio Class Action Lawyer and Insurance Overcharge Attorney reviews reports of hospital excessive billing and insurance companies overcharging for medical devices and insurance co-payments.
A class action lawsuit has been filed nationally for a class of patients that have been repeatedly overcharged for necessary medical devices normally covered by their health insurance provider: Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company. Aetna Health Inc., United HealthCare Inc. and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield are also being investigated for a similar upcharge scheme to overcharge patients and profit.
Plaintiffs and class action attorneys allege that Cigna ran a scheme with a service provider called CareCentrix to allow Cigna to defraud patients on hospital excessive billing on co-payments and co-insurance.
In one instance, CareCentrix overcharged a sleep apnea patient with a $25 co-payment for a medical device—a disposable airway pressure filter from J&L Medical Services—that should have cost the patient $7.50. Another plaintiff alleges that Cigna charged them over $2,000 for a blood test, noting that the total cost was over $17,000. The actual cost of the test was allegedly only $471.
Attorneys believe that Cigna kept the difference, and believes this was not a one-time occurrence but part of a larger scheme to overcharge on insurance and profit off patients.
Class action lawyers think this kind of hospital excessive billing and insurance overcharge practice may involve not only Cigna but also other health insurance providers overcharging for medical products and services. Attorneys nationwide are currently investigating allegations regarding X-Rays, MRIs and other medical services and equipment.

Class Action Hospital Overcharge Lawsuits
Lawsuits filed for an entire class of patients requires legal expertise to determine what is relevant in a case and what compensation may be recovered from negligence insurance companies that may be engaging in unlawful and ethical business practices.
Insurance overcharge events may be more common than previously thought, and by filing a suit against an insurance provider, attorneys and consumer advocates may increase the oversight of the industry and curtail types of health insurance fraud in the future.
