Following a data breach, the University of California (UC) released further details of a security incident that has impact thousands of staff and students. The University of California confirmed that sensitive information was stolen in the attack, though it is unclear how that data has been used.
The University of California suffered a data breach in April 2021 after threat actors gained unauthorized access to the Accellion file transfer appliance (FTA). personal data that may have been compromised includes:
- Names
- Addresses
- Telephone numbers
- Social Security numbers
- Driver’s license information
- Passport information
- Bank routing and account numbers
- Health information
- Disability information
- Birth dates
Individuals who applied for UC courses starting in the academic year 2021-22 may have had their contact details stolen. University of California has not confirmed the number of data breach victims.
