DuPage Medical Group, an independent physician group out of Illinois, has begun notifying around 600,000 patients about a data breach that may have compromised sensitive personal protected health information.

DuPage Medical first identified suspicious network activity in July 2021 and engaged a third party to conduct an investigation. The experts concluded that unauthorized users had gained access to DuPage IT systems on July 12 and access remained possible for at least 24 hours. DuPage Medical Group confirmed that data sets containing patient information had possibly been impacted. Personal information potentially compromised in the data breach may include the following:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Diagnosis codes
  • Treatment dates
  • Social Security numbers

DuPage Medical says it has reviewed current security measures and has added cybersecurity protections to reduce the risk of future cyberattacks.
