What Happened at Virtualweb Technologies?
Recent dark web reports indicate that the Brain Cipher ransomware group has infiltrated the ITsystems at Virtualweb, claiming to have made off with over two terabytes of customer data. The group posted these allegations on a dark web forum, threatening to release the information unless a ransom is paid promptly within the day.
Brain Cipher, a relatively new name in the ransomware world, is known for a dual-threat approach: stealing data before encrypting systems, amplifying pressure on its targets. Among the alleged victims are a few notable clients:
- Amego Inc. (U.S.), a non-profit committed to supporting individuals with autism and developmental disabilities through residential, educational, and clinical programs.
- Remax Consult (Kenya), an engineering consultancy specializing in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for data centers and healthcare.
- Bitconsultants.org (U.S.), a firm aiding businesses in integrating Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
While Brain Cipher sounds confident in their possession of a file list from the breach, specific details remain unverified, and the victims have not confirmed the breach.
