What Happened at VeriSource?

The Texas-based employee benefits administration firm, VeriSource Services, has reported that a massive data breach exposed the personal information of four million individuals.

The incident was initially discovered in February 2024 after a threat actor allegedly exfiltrated data from its IT systems. The stolen information, belonged to both employees and clients using its services. Although the company said it tried to inform all impacted individuals about the breach quickly, it took over a year to complete the process.

The potentially compromised information may include names, addresses, dates of birth, gender information, and Social Security numbers.

Based in Houston, VeriSource provides employee benefits administration and HR outsourcing solutions and services, including data management, employee enrollment, billing, ACA reporting, dependent verification, and FMLA administration.

VeriSource previously sent data breach notification letters to impacted individuals to 55,000 people in May 2024 and 112,000 in September 2024. The remainder of the victims have only recently been notified by mail.

If you have received a notification letter from VeriSource, it is important to understand the added risks of fraud and identity theft. It is best to remain vigilant and protect your data into the future with credit monitoring and possible security freezes.
