What Happened at United Domestic Workers of America?
On March 28, 2025, United Domestic Workers of America, AFSCME Local 3930 (UDW) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of California after concluding that a recent cyberattack may have compromised the personal data of UDW members. In the sample notice, UDW explains that the IT security incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access members’ sensitive information, including names, Social Security numbers, and addresses.
After an investigation, UDW started sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals known to be impacted. If you receive a data breach letter from UDW, it is important to understand the increased risks of identity theft and fraud following data theft events.
According to UDW, on January 17, 2025, it was determined that an unauthorized party tried to access its IT network. Immediately after, UDW confirmed that some of the company’s HR information was subject to unauthorized access. On March 27, 2025, UDW of America sent out data breach letters to anyone who was thought to be affected by the incident.
