In August 2023, Sovos Compliance LLC filed a notice of data breach on behalf of multiple companies after learning about a vulnerability in the MOVEit file-transfer application. The application used by Sovos contained a vulnerability that compromised the data of millions worldwide.

In the subsequent reports, Sovos explained that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access names and Social Security numbers. Sovos began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals with more details and contact information.

Sovos filed a notice with the Attorney General of Maine and provides some important information on the breach. According to sources, they learned of a critical vulnerability on May 31, 2023 which allowed unauthorized actors to access confidential information stored on company servers. On August 23, 2023, Sovos Compliance sent out data breach letters to victims.
