
PSEA Data Breach Investigation | Pennsylvania Education Union

What Happened at PSEA?
Only recently announced by PSEA, the data breach was allegedly first discovered last summer when the Pennsylvania State Education Association experienced a network security incident on July 6, 2024. The union then started an investigation which later confirmed that an unauthorized party had accessed and acquired certain files containing confidential information belonging to union members.
On March 17, 2025, the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine, noting that as many as 517,487 individuals may have had their personal data impacted. PSEA explains on their website that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access the following types of sensitive information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Passport number
- Taxpayer ID number
- Username and password
- Account number
- Account PIN
- Security code
- Password and routing number
- Payment card number
- Payment card PIN and expiration date
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
The Pennsylvania State Education Association has sent out data breach letters to anyone who was potentially affected by the recent data security incident. Operating out of Harrisburg, PA, PSEA is an organization representing educators, school staff, and education professionals across Pennsylvania.
