What Happened at PruittHealth?

PruittHealth, a large multi-state health system with 180 facilities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, has confirmed that patient data was stolen in a November 2023 cyberattack. It is unclear why it took the entity so long to alert their patient base.

While the “foreign actors” behind the attack were not named in the company’s breach notice, the NoEscape ransomware group has in fact claimed responsibility for the incident.

PruittHealth said the hackers demanded a ransom payment to prevent the release of a large amount of stolen data. The bad actors uploaded the stolen data to their dark web blog site back in December 2023, but it was subsequently taken down.

A review of the compromised PruittHealth file server revealed that the files leaked may have contained patient names, dates of birth, government identification information, demographic information, contact information, home address, Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, health insurance information, and health information.
