What Happened at Maryhaven?

Maryhaven recently announced that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information (PHI) in its possession may have been accessed and/or acquired. According to a breach notice sent to patients, Maryhaven discovered unauthorized activity in its IT network in June 2024 and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

Maryhaven later confirmed that an unauthorized actor did in fact gain access to company systems in May of 2024. The following types of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Driver’s license
  • Medical diagnosis or condition
  • Health insurance information

Maryhaven posted a data breach notice describing the incident on its website and is sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Maryhaven, Inc. is a nonprofit organization offering behavioral health and addiction recovery services in Central Ohio. They have multiple residential and outpatient treatment centers, providing medically assisted therapies, detoxification, women’s treatment, addiction stabilization and counseling services. They also have a separate entity based on Long Island, New York, with residential programs, day habilitation, and vocational training.
