Extend Fertility, a fertility clinic out of New York City, has begun sending out data breach notification letters to alert patients of a data security incident that may have compromised their personal data.

Extend Fertility specializes in IVF and the freezing of eggs and embryos, concerning privacy attorneys about possible DNA data being vulnerable.  The company says a ransomware attack in December 2021 that impacted networks and servers was the cause of the data breach.

Third-party digital forensic specialists concluded cybercriminals had access to servers on which the protected health information (PHI) and personal data, including:

  • First and last name
  • Gender
  • Home address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Medical history
  • Diagnosis and treatment information
  • Lab test results
  • Prescription information
  • Provider name

  • Financial information
