What happened at Erie Insurance?
On June 7, 2025, Erie Insurance reported in an SEC filing that the company identified suspicious activity on their internal network related to a cybersecurity incident. Erie has since issued an Information Security Event notice on its website and launched an investigation to confirm the nature and scope of the incident.
Erie has not released the number of individuals affected, though it is a large insurance broker, and the data impacted could include personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, policy details, and potentially driver’s license numbers. Erie currently has six million active insurance policies with customers, and the company has over 20,000 employees and agents. Erie offers auto, home, business and life insurance through a network of independent insurance agents across at least 12 states.
We believe strongly that any company that collects and stores your personal information has a duty to keep it safe from cyber threats. These threats are well-known in every industry and to ignore the issue by not creating a strong It security system could be construed as negligent. You can seek justice and compensation by taking legal action.
If you receive a data breach notification letter from Erie or any other entity, it is important to understand the increased risks of fraud and identity theft. Please contact an attorney to learn more about filing a complaint and to take the next steps to help mitigate any associated data security risks.
