What Happened at Daniel E. Fitzgerald CPA?

The Modesto, California, accounting firm, Daniel E Fitzgerald, which provides tax consultation and planning, estate and retirement planning, financial projections and forecasts, evaluation and instillation of accounting software, personal finance management, and accounting and auditing services to hundreds of clients, has announced a data security incident that may have resulted in a large number of individuals’ data being compromised.

An investigation after the fact concluded that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information in a ransomware attack on January 11, 2024.

On May 14, 2024, Daniel E Fitzgerald CPA finally began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted by the incident. For individuals, the following data may have been leaked to the hackers: name, gender, date of birth, telephone number, address, social security number, all employment (W-2) information, 1099 information, direct deposit bank account information (including account number and routing information).

For Business Entities, the following may have been accessed by the threat actors: company name, Federal Employer Identification Number, address, telephone number; employee and/or 1099-recipient information, partner, shareholder/officer or beneficiary names, addresses, social security numbers.
