Covenant Health Data Security Investigation

What happened at Covenant Health?

IT security and news outlets are reporting that Covenant Health and its affiliated organizations may have experienced a widespread cybersecurity incident. Covenant Health became aware of IT connectivity issues that impacted the organization on May 26, the apparent result of a “cyber incident initiated from an outside group.” The investigation is new and ongoing and more details should emerge in the coming weeks. Covenant Health, based out of Andover, New Hampshire, serves communities in New England and parts of Pennsylvania. The healthcare entity first started experiencing connectivity issues and took down data systems across the entire network at its hospitals, clinics, and provider practices.

Covenant Health has not stated if ransomware was used, and no threat group has currently claimed responsibility for the cyberattack. The website of St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire, warned that some services may be unavailable. Some patients were diverted to other hospitals in the area. The incident has affected its outpatient lab services. St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine, and St Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, Maine were also impacted. Covenant Health is affiliated with the following hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities:
