What happened at American National Bank & Trust?
American National Bank (ANBT) reported to the Attorney Generals of several states after it allegedly experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its possession may have been stolen. According to the sample breach notice sent out, on January 22, 2025, ANBT identified unauthorized access on its network and started an investigation.
On April 28, 2025, the bank confirmed that personal information was accessed without authorization between January 21 and 22, 2025. The following types of information could be potentially compromised:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Government issued ID number (passport, state ID card)
- Financial information (bank account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical Information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
According to official reports filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, Texas Attorney General, Vermont Attorney General, New Hampshire Attorney General, and the California Attorney General, both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) were compromised. American National Bank & Trust is a community bank headquartered in Wichita Falls, Texas, experienced a data breach affecting several thousand individuals. American National has started mailing data breach notification letters to all impacted individuals.
