What Happened at Complete Payroll Solutions?
On February 21 and March 10, 2024, Complete Payroll Solutions (CPS) reportedly experienced a ransomware attack by a group known as MEOW, who claimed responsibility on the dark web. The groups says they accessed 3 GB of sensitive company data, potentially including the following: personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, social security numbers, financial account details, and driver’s license numbers. The hackers claim to have confidential employee data, client information, scanned payment documents, tax documents, payment records, and other personal data.
The data security incident was reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office, the California Attorney General’s office, the Vermont Attorney General’s office, and the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office between April 25 and April 28, 2025.
After discovering suspicious activity on their servers on March 10, 2024, CPS launched an investigation to determine the scope of the data affected and notified law enforcement authorities. Our attorneys work with some of the largest firms in the country on privacy issues, and we have settled numerous class action data breach lawsuits on behalf of plaintiffs in all fifty states.
