What happened at Ciuni & Panichi?
On April 1, 2025, Ciuni & Panichi, Inc. filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas after the company discovered that an unauthorized party had accessed files on their server that contained confidential information. In the notice sent out to impacted individuals, Ciuni explains that the incident resulted in the unauthorized party accessing names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth.
After an investigation, Ciuni & Panichi started sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was known to be affected. According to the breach notice, on November 3, 2024, Ciuni & Panichi became aware of unauthorized activity in an employee email account. They confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems belonging to its clients may have been compromised.
There are several unknowns about this incident at the time of writing, and we are unaware of what directly caused the breach. It could have been a cyberattack targeting Ciuni & Panichi, and also possible that C&P is reporting a data breach at a third-party vendor.
The filed notice of the incident with the Attorney General of Texas noted that there were 1,474 Texans impacted, which suggests a very large number impacted in Ohio and nationwide.
