Cancer Causing Medications & Drug Contamination

Cincinnati, Ohio, Drug Recall Lawyer and Pharmaceutical Injury Attorney reviewing cancer causing medications for plaintiffs nationwide

Cancer Causing Medications

In the last year, litigation has been developing around cancer causing medications and contaminated drugs. Most recently, Sanofi recalled Zantac due to carcinogenic properties found in the heartburn medication.

Another large scale recall surfaced last year with the same cancer-causing chemical (NDMA) found in large quantities of Valsartan and Losartan. Consumers taking these drugs who develop cancer may have a viable product liability lawsuit and should contact a toxic tort attorney to discuss.

In addition to Zantac and Valsartan cancer cases, Johnson & Johnson has been battling cancer claims regarding its iconic baby powder products. Attorneys say asbestos contamination of talcum powders has led to thousands of cancer cases.

Zantac Recalls & Cancer Causing Medications

Sanofi recalled the heartburn drug Zantac in the U.S. and Canada a month after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted the public that the drug may contain levels of a cancer-causing chemical.

There are several generic versions of Zantac, called ranitidine, that have already been recalled for the same contamination concerns. Walgreens, CVS and Walmart have all pulled some versions of heartburn drugs from their shelves.

There are unknowns still, and Sanofi, the French drug maker says it is investigating the issue. Meanwhile, consumers who have taken Zantac for many years to treat gastro disorders, ulcers and heartburn, are left wondering if they are at risk of developing cancer.

The FDA noted in a statement that N-nitrosodimethylamine, or NDMA, was found in samples of Zantac. NDMA is thought to be carcinogenic in humans. The FDA said the contaminant was found in “unacceptable levels.” The health agency is advising consumers who use versions of Zantac to consider using a different heartburn medication. Patients who take prescription Zantac should speak with their prescribing physician.

  • Have you ingested Zantac?
  • Have you been diagnosed with the following cancer: Bladder, Colorectal, Esophageal, Intestinal, Kidney, Liver, Ovarian, Pancreatic, Stomach, Testicular, Uterine?
  • Have you taken Zantac at least three months prior to cancer diagnosis?

Valsartan Recalls

Widespread contamination of Losartan and Valsartan, popular blood pressure drugs, led to the FDA recalling versions of the drug. Cancer risks have been cited by product recall lawyers and plaintiffs have filed injury claims after being diagnosed with liver cancer, colon cancer, stomach cancer, kidney cancer or intestinal cancer.

NDMA (N-nitrosodimethylamine) is a toxin, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) labels it as dangerous contaminant. Consumers who have developed cancer after taking Valsartan or Losartan AFTER 2014 may have a viable product liability claim. Safety authorities are still investigating these potentially cancer causing medications.

Contact a Valsartan Drug Injury Lawyer if:

  • You have been diagnosed cancer at least ONE YEAR after taking Valsartan or Losartan. If you are unsure whether your medication was contaminated or not, contact an attorney to help reviee the National Drug Code records.
  • You have been diagnosed with: kidney cancer, liver cancer, colon cancer, stomach cancer, or intestinal cancer
  • You have a cancer diagnosis AFTER 2014
  • You were taking Losartan or Irbesartan for at least one year prior to your cancer diagnosis
  • You have received a recall letter OR have drug records with a recalled NDC number.
  • If you have NOT received a recall letter, please order your drug records dating back to 2014

Baby Powder Cancer Lawsuits

Due to ovarian cancer that has been linked to contaminated talcum powder, Johnson & Johnson now faces thousands of product liability lawsuits. The company has not recalled their baby powder products, and the level of talc contamination has been disputed.

Does talc powder cause cancer? Attorneys representing injured plaintiffs argue that tainted baby powder contributed to the development of ovarian cancer. J&J denies any wrongdoing, though some court documents suggest the company may have known about asbestos in some talc products in the past. The company failed to warn consumers of the alleged contamination.
