The Lyon Firm is actively involved in data privacy and data theft cases and is currently investigating the Aetna Life Insurance & MOVEit ransomware attack on behalf of data breach victims and plaintiffs nationwide.

The insurer Aetna has allegedly been affected by the massive MOVEit ransomware attack, potentially involving the protected health information of thousands of plan members. Aetna Life Insurance notes the breach is related to the Pension Benefit Information, LLC (PBI), a company that provides audit and address research services for insurance companies.

Compromised Aetna Life Insurance data may include names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. Other insurance companies affected by the same ransomware attack include Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Genworth, New York Life Insurance, Fidelity and dozens of others.

Aetna notified the attorney generals of Texas and Maine and the exact number of impacted individuals is not known. This is not the first security incident involving Aetna. In 2020, a phishing attack exposed the PHI of 484,157 Aetna ACE plan members. Aetna also experienced a data breach in 2017 that affected 12,000 individuals.
