What Happened at First Mid Bank?

On October 17, 2023, First Mid Bank first learned that Fiserv, one of their vendors, had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information may have been accessed and acquired. Fiserv had been using the MOVEit software when it was hacked. The company later determined that the attack resulted in an unauthorized party accessing sensitive information between May 27 and May 31, 2023. Hundreds of other organizations were also hit, impacting millions of individuals.

On January 16, 2024, First Mid Bank & Trust began notifying individuals whose information may have been compromised. The type of information potentially exposed includes the following:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Financial account number

It is currently unclear exactly how many are impacted by this breach. Operating out of Mattoon, Illinois, First Mid is the parent company of First Mid Bank & Trust, N.A., First Mid Insurance Group, and First Mid Wealth Management Company. The bank provides personal and commercial banking, mortgage lending, insurance, wealth management, and farmland services.
