What Happened at Nixon?
Nixon, Inc. recently reported to the Attorney General of both Maine and California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its possession may have been compromised. According to the form breach notices, on December 18, 2024, Nixon became aware of unusual activity on its IT network and launched an investigation.
The watch company later confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party. The specific data is not entirely known at this juncture, however “personal information” that is legally required to be reported leaked include the following:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number, ID card number, tax identification number, passport number, military ID number, or other unique ID number issued on a government document
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the breach, Nixon has started mailing data breach notification letters to all known impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent out to California residents, Nixon is providing affected individuals with more details, including the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
