The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (HHS) website has reported that 29,819 individuals may have been impacted in an alleged “hacking/IT” incident at Lexington Diagnostics Center in Kentucky.

What happened at Lexington Diagnostics Center?
Lexington Diagnostics recently announced that it fell victim to a hacking incident in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information on its network may have been accessed and stolen. According to the notice the company sent out, on March 16, 2024, the company became aware of unauthorized access to its network. They launched an initial investigation to determine the nature and scope of the breach, though it is still unclear why it took over 8 months to alert clients and patients of the security risks.
After their investigation, LDC confirmed that some stored personal information could have been viewed and leaked by an unauthorized third party between February 26, 2024, and March 16, 2024.
According to a notice sent out to thousands of data breach victims, the Lexington Diagnostics Center (LDC) data security event may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information, including the following:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Geographic location
- Medical record number
- Patient account number
- Health plan beneficiary numbers
- Medical diagnosis/medical treatment information
