Frederick Health Ransomware Attack Investigation

What Happened at Frederick Health?

An investigating has begun, and more details will emerge in coming weeks, but we know at the moment that on January 27, 2025, Frederick Health in Maryland announced that it was hit with a ransomware attack that forced it to many of its systems offline. The cyberattack disrupted patient services but Frederick confirmed that all its facilities remained open.

Frederick Health is now working with a  third-party cybersecurity team to investigate the attack, and to determine if the threat actor accessed or stole sensitive patient data.

Frederick Health is a healthcare system serving Frederick County, Maryland, and the surrounding areas with a range of services, including primary and specialty care, emergency services, surgical care, oncology, and rehabilitation.

On the healthcare entity’s website, they note the following timeline:

“January 28, 2025 – Frederick Health Village Laboratory is closed. All other Frederick Health Laboratory locations and Frederick Health Medical Group offices are open.

January 27, 2025 – Frederick Health recently identified a ransomware event. We took immediate steps to help contain the incident, and we proactively took our systems offline.”
