What happened at Dameron Hospital?

An investigation has determined that personal data may have been subject to unauthorized access or acquisition between November 4, 2023, and November 5, 2023. It is unusual that a hospital would discover a data breach nearly 18 months after it occurred, and calls into question the effectiveness of the company’s IT security.

In a notice posted on the California Attorney General website, Dameron Hospital reported that it suffered a data breach and that the unauthorized party accessed and copied certain information from its network.

The hospital, headquartered in Stockton, California, is a 200+ bed community hospital providing acute and tertiary level care to San Joaquin County residents. Dameron services include cardiology and cardiac surgery, orthopedics, bariatric surgery, as well as general acute care, emergency, and intensive care services.

Dameron Hospital has disclosed that the data breach may involve sensitive personal and health-related information, including the following:

  • Name
  • Social Security Number
  • Medical Information
  • Health Insurance Information
