What Happened at Compumedics?
On March 22, 2025, Compumedics detected unauthorized access to its network, disrupting its IT systems. An investigation, joined by by third-party forensics experts, confirmed that between February 15, 2025, and March 23, 2025, an unauthorized party accessed and copied internal files. The breach was reportedly fully assessed by May 13, 2025, revealing that patient data—including names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, diagnoses, treatment details, and sleep study results—had been stolen. For some, Social Security numbers were also exposed, amplifying the threat of identity theft.
This breach affects patients of healthcare providers like Bronson Healthcare Group, Billings Clinic, and VCU Health System Authority, among others. The stolen data may lead to financial fraud, identity theft, and emotional distress. Data breach notification letters were sent to impacted individuals around June 27, 2025, but the full scope of affected individuals remains unclear as the incident hasn’t yet appeared on the HHS OCR breach portal.
