What is the Allegheny Health Network?
Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is a 14-hospital medical system based in Pittsburgh. Allegheny Health Network offers primary care, specialty care, and wellness pavilions. Network specialties include bariatric and metabolic, cancer, cardiovascular, diabetes and endocrinology, neuroscience, mental health, and women’s health.
What Happened at Allegheny Health?
According to sources, a data breach involving unauthorized access to patient data has been detected at one of AHN’s business associates. The attack occurred at IntraSystems LLC, a third-party firm contracted to host, manage, and secure certain computer systems used by AHN’s Home Medical Equipment and Home Infusion companies.
IntraSystems first notified AHN about the cyberattack on November 19, 2024, with its internal investigation determining that certain patient data was accessed on October 11, 2024. This is not the first data theft event for AHN in the last few years. On May 31 and June 1, 2022, Allegheny Health experienced a data breach in which sensitive information on its system may have been accessed.
