What Happened at Delta Health?
Delta Health, which operates a hospital and other care facilities, reported to Maine’s attorney general that a hacking incident detected last May potentially affected more than 148,000 individuals, with various protected health information allegedly stolen in the cyberattack.
Delta County Memorial Hospital District in Colorado first alerted patients of “suspicious activity”within its computer network on May 30, 2024. Third party cybersecurity experts were hired to investigate, who latter confirmed that the healthcare network was indeed accessed by unauthorized third party who exfiltrated files containing patient information.
Files on the hacked network were reviewed, and it was confirmed on November 1, 2024, that the following patient data had been compromised and potentially stolen: Names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, financial account information, medical information, health insurance information, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers.
The healthcare group said their investigation determined that “an unknown, unauthorized third party” gained access to Delta Health’s network between May 27 and May 30, 2024, acquiring certain files from their IT system.
Personal information affected varies for each impacted individual but could have included name, address, telephone number, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license number, medical information, health insurance information, and financial account information.
