Once a product is released and the agency foresees safety issues or when injuries are reported, it may lead to CPSC recalls. Other times, a company is forced to recall a product after injured consumers and lawyers raise independent concerns and file lawsuits. Some recent CPSC Recalls include the following:
Harbor Freight Tools Chain Saws: over a million chain saws recalled for a faulty power switch that could fail to shut off the tool. The power switch can malfunction and allow the chain saw to continue operating after the operator moves the switch to the “off” position, posing a serious injury hazard.
Regency Ultimate gas stove fireplaces: Recalled because the pressure release system can fail and cause the gas stove to explode, posing explosion, burn and injury hazards. Three reports of the pressure system failing, and one report of the door hinge breaking, including one incident that resulted in minor cuts to the consumer’s legs resulted in a recall of over 24,000 units.
2016-2018 Honda Pioneer 1000 Vehicles: 65,000 recalled because the muffler can overheat, causing the plastic heat shield to melt or catch fire, posing a fire and burn hazard. At least 22 reports of the muffler plastic heat shield melting and three reports of muffler plastic heat shield fires.
Play and Park Structures SuperMax triple slides: these playground slides sold at independent distributors to parks, schools and municipalities were recalled because a gap between the rails near the entrance way poses an entrapment hazard to young children.

Nerf Battle Racers: over 26,000 four-wheel pedal powered go-karts for children were recalled because the steering wheel on the go-kart can detach, break or crack while in use, posing a laceration and/or collision hazard. There have been at least 639 reports in the U.S. of the steering wheel detaching, breaking or cracking with one resulting in a laceration to a child’s face.
Ambiano mini deep fryers: The deep fryer heating element can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. The CPSC is aware of at least three reports of the deep fryers catching on fire, including three reports of minor property damage.
