KENTUCKY ASBESTOS EXPOSURE

Reviewing Kentucky Mesothelioma & Lung Cancer Claims

Asbestos Lawyer

Representing Kentucky Asbestos Victims Diagnosed with Mesothelioma & Lung Cancer

Kentucky has been an important industry hub in the American Midwest for decades, with major corporations operating factories and plants throughout the state. As a result, Kentucky asbestos exposure might have been inevitable to many.

Kentucky has played home to many auto plants, steel plants (forgeries, foundries and mills), paper mills, breweries, power plants, railroad companies, appliance manufacturers, insulation factories, chemical companies and oil refineries.

Many of the companies with operations in Kentucky built factories and facilities with toxic asbestos materials, and many of the consumer products produced in Kentucky plants contained asbestos.

Health agencies like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have called asbestos a known cancer-causing agent, and have warned that even a small amount of exposure at home or at the workplace can have devastating consequences.

But even after international bodies recognized and warned of the risks to workers, many companies continued to use asbestos in building, product and machine materials, endangering workers and families in Kentucky.

Any former Kentucky worker exposed to asbestos fibers may risk severe asbestos-related illness and injury, including mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.

Joe Lyon is an experienced asbestos exposure attorney and mesothelioma cancer lawyer representing plaintiffs and injured workers in Kentucky and throughout the nation.

Kentucky Asbestos Exposure Sites

Several industries in Kentucky utilized asbestos for its strength, fire resistant properties and durability for decades, putting thousands of workers at risk of cancer and other asbestos-related diseases like mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

Lexington Asbestos Exposure

Lexington and other cities in Kentucky were home to heavy industrial companies that for many decades used or manufactured asbestos materials and products.

At some workplaces, many of the buildings contained asbestos in piping, insulation, machinery and protective equipment. As a result, many Lexington workers were exposed to asbestos, and were at risk of developing deadly diseases like asbestosis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Lexington workers may have risked their health due to chronic or acute asbestos exposure before the 1980s, when employers did little to protect employees from workplace toxins. Lawsuits have been filed in recent years against several manufacturers and Lexington companies for endangering the health of workers around Kentucky.

Former Lexington, Kentucky employees have developed asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer and other asbestos-related illnesses. Because asbestos was used commonly in Kentucky factories, many workers now require compensation to help pay for mounting medical costs and lost wages.

Asbestos lawyers representing mesothelioma victims can assist in the legal process and file claims to recover compensation from existing asbestos trust funds. Employers have a duty to protect their workers, and when they fail to do so, and an injury occurs, legal cation may be necessary to recover compensation.

Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Asbestos fibers cause scarring in the tissue that surround the lungs and the damage can lay dormant for many years, before tumors and cancer are discovered. By the time symptoms appear, however, mesothelioma cancer is most likely in an advanced stage. Symptoms of mesothelioma may include:

  • Chest pain
  • Persistent cough
  • Trouble breathing
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Lumps of tissue in the chest and abdomen
  • Stomach pain
  • Swelling of the abdomen
  • Unexplained weight loss & fatigue

Occupational Asbestos Risk

Most workers at Kentucky auto, steel and manufacturing plants insulated with asbestos materials have probably faced an occupational exposure. Auto production sites were regularly built with asbestos bricks, drywall, and heating and water pipes. Some employees, however, faced higher risks than others. The following plant positions are considered high-risk:

  • Pipefitters & Plumbers
  • Machinists
  • Electricians
  • Welders
  • Millwrights
  • Insulators
  • Maintenance Crews

Mesothelioma Cancer Treatment

After being diagnosed with an asbestos-related illness, the next step, while considering potential legal actions, is to find the best possible mesothelioma cancer treatment centers. Mesothelioma is a relatively rare condition and may require specific treatments and specialized oncologists for the best care and chance of survival.

There are three Kentucky Mesothelioma Treatment centers, as well as a few other lung cancer treatment options for victims of asbestos-related diseases.

  • The Lung Cancer Clinic at University of Louisville Health Sciences Center—Louisville, KY
  • Mesothelioma Treatment Section at the Kentuckian Cancer Institute—Louisville, KY
  • University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center—Lexington, KY

Kentucky is home to National Cancer Institute-recognized comprehensive cancer centers, providing mesothelioma patient care and advanced specialty care with specialized surgeons and advanced technology.

Patients diagnosed with mesothelioma have around a 30 percent chance of surviving five years after a diagnosis, though medical science is now more advanced than ever, and treatment options are expanding.

Kentucky Asbestos Exposure Attorney

Due to the widespread use of asbestos in Kentucky workplaces, many Kentucky workers develop deadly asbestos-related diseases years later.

Plaintiffs diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer, both closely associated with asbestos exposure, may file claims and recover compensation from asbestos trusts with the help of a Kentucky asbestos exposure attorney.

If you have been exposed to asbestos at a Kentucky work site, and suffered from an asbestos-related disease, contact a Kentucky mesothelioma attorney to proceed with filing a claim and potentially reaching a settlement.

Why are these cases important?

Many experience asbestos exposure through the workplace. Workplaces may have been filled with toxic materials, and employers may have failed to warn of the serious health risks of the job. Filing a suit helps to raise the awareness of job safety.
